Good video, Stan! Very helpful!
I'm using this method for my solar Foundation footers

2ft x2ft ceiling tiles. I need stake points on both ends of my 2ft trim pieces. I’m using 1x4 for trim. So it would be 8 45 degree cuts per intersectional joint and 2ft from point to point on the individual pieces. Does this sound correct?
Thank you, I've been looking for this exact video, gone thorugh more than 20 before finding it..
Very nice and clear video! I'm building a chicken run and coop, 11 wide by 20 long, and the coop will make an ell at the far end of the run. I've built most of my 11 trusses, but I'm now ready to put the bracing on the joints. Two questions: 1. Whats the nice hand power nail(?) driver you are using to drive the nails? And what size nails? 2 or 2-1/2"? 2. You didn't brace both sides of the truss... should i brace both sides, or just one sude as your video seemed to indicate?
I must be a terrible woodworker, cus I didn't know about that specific 4/12 thing. I knew the technique but never learned the name or info on it
why do we alternate the blocking in between the floor joists? From left to right the pattern alternates.
If you didn't you would have to toenail each block.
Love these videos dude! Keep going
Stan, We miss your videos!! Please share more information. Thank you very much.
Kind words, thank you so much. I'm working on it hopefully soon.
8 months since last video. hope you OK.
We are OK. Thank you for checking in. Full time job and family life makes it hard to find time. Hopefully soon.
Chicken in the background just diggin her hole and chillin 😂
They are fun to watch.
Do you need to attach them all to each other beside with the sheathing ?
Love to see both kids being proficient with power tools (or at least drills). Great video series 👍
Thanks. Start small, lean big.
I've seen more projects messed up because of not using batter boards,
Thanks Stan, watching this a few days before starting my house build. Super simple to understand to give first time string liners a little confidence...keep on
Great to hear! Good luck on your build.
Do the gusset plates go on only 1 side?
Great series. When do you plan on uploading the rest of the videos?
Hopefully soon.
Just looks so different not seeing any support in the center that would further support a "live load" of the structure. Id be worried in time the floor would sag in the middle. Im certainly the over engineer it kind of person.
I'm not trying to be rude with my comment so please don't take it that way but, span charts are available for everyone to use. You can google them and find one pretty easily. It has nothing to do with "over engineering". It has everything to do with wasting time and money that doesn't need to be used. However, with that being said, someone can put as much "support in the center" as they wish. I actually cover "live load psi calculations in the video at some point. Have a great day.
This method is the easiest yet.
... świetna robota, czy mógłbyś podać więcej szczegółów jaki to wymiar jakie wymiary legarów jaka grubość tej płyty jaki rozstaw bloczków...
Thanks for taking the time to share this info.
My pleasure!
I saw another video where he didn’t use the piece of wood on the bottom, he notched the 2x4’s instead. Not sure what the difference is, except less wood. Would love to know how it changes the math if you do it that way.
Those are rafters. These are trusses.
I'm a tad embarassed to say 2:25 blew my mind a bit. Such a simple and easy way to account for the offset when marking... pencil first, bring ruler to the pencil. Of course.
It is always interesting to hear what people gleam from videos. Thanks.
Great video series. Will we ever see you put the trusses up?
Yes, soon
This is a well made video
Thanks.
Great series, hope to see the other videos!
Coming soon!
You answered alot of questions. It's amazing to me how simple footings are and don't require an engineer to plan.
A long as you know your local code requirements anyone can do it.
Honest question. No joist hangers?
Wish I’d have seen this video last night. Drove 45 mins to menards to order 9 of these exact trusses. $565 and 5 day wait. Emailed this morning to cancel order. I’m guessing I’ll save around $450 (depending on restocking fee/refund) and have them built today. The sharing of your knowledge and details are very appreciated. Thank you!
Take your family out to dinner with the money you saved.
I'm not sure I understood how you could garantee the strings were perpendicular.
Wondering if I copy this design it would hold. water tanks which would make it top heavy.
No. Don't use mechanical fasteners for heavy storage.
Doppleganger, Michael J Fox's other brother from another mother
For those looking for his info on his footers. He has no frost line so only needs to be 12" deep. He has another video with more detail.
Thanks for that. You are correct.
Do you know the load bearing value of your soil?
silty sand type soil. 3000psi.
Did you use 2x6? If so, why? Just for added strength?
No, I didn't
How much would you charge for that? I have someone wanting to pay me to build it for them.
It's a nice video for engineering students in Building. Keep it up to continue inflicting building skills to leaners
Thanks a lot
Nice video, great commentary and instruction. New subscriber here. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge with the rest of us.
Glad you enjoy. Thanks for the kind words.
😂😂
Hammer on my hand😂
I need to have the miter cut through the narrow part because that's how I want my frame to be. the width of the board to be they height or depth of the cradle frame for my art panel. The saw I got casts a shadow with the led light so that will help make it easier to target the correct spot.
Absolutely loved..LOVED baby girl picking up and inspecting your clean out. ❤❤❤😂
Me too!!
How far is your pier span.8 ft?
4ft and 12ft. Determined by a code enforced span chart.
Excellent 👌👌
These trusses are with an overhang. If I don't want an overhang, do I just cut the top chords to the edge of the bottom chord? I'm assuming as I am new to this.
Yes
If you had taller piers - about six foot - would you still use blocks or round sono tube columns?
Either. I've seen both.
I'm an electrician , had my workshop built by Tuff Shed 20'x 30' feet , I decided to build an 8'x8' soundproof generator shed next to it, to back feed power to our home during power outages . I live in Florida and we typically lose power for one or two weeks after storms, and we lose power during thunderstorms also. Your videos are a great value to me and many others, thank you. Thinking of making a UA-cam video of my sound proof generator shed design and features.
Kind words, thank you and you should post that video. Share with the world and let those that find value in it, find value. Peace.
The best demonstration and instructions for building trusses I have seen!
Kind words! Thnks
😮thanks bro
Go forth and cut angles. Peace.
